NEW YORK—

The Dow Jones industrial average ended with the gain of 17 points at 13,488 Friday. The S&P 500 slipped a fraction of a point to 1,472. The Nasdaq composite rose three to close at 3,125.

Boeing fell after the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration said it was launching a comprehensive review of the critical systems of Boeing's 787 after a fire and a fuel leak earlier this week.

Rising stocks edged out falling ones on the New York Stock Exchange. Trading volume was about average, 3.3 billion shares.
